Marc Houtzager

Marc is born in 1971 in Hoogeveen (NL). Marc started riding pony’s when he was 8 years old. He completed the MAVO education and ‘middelstands diploma’. After that Marc worked at trading stable Jan Broek for 7 years. Next he worked 2 years with Roelof Bril, 1 year with Johan Heins and a year with Willy van der Ham. Marc always worked partly independent.

Since 1997, Marc has his own stables situated at the Holtrustweg in Rouveen (NL). His Carreer started with the stallion Jacomar (from Ramiro Z). Marc had many international victories with this horse, among them the Grand Prix of Dublin.

In 2004, Opium (from Polydor) arrived at the stable. Because of this he started the cooperation with Stud Sterrehof

Marc had his greatest succes at the Olympic Games of 2008 in Hong Kong with Sterrehof’s Opium. During the Olympic Games Marc and Sterrehof’s Opium made it individually to the 7th place. In 2012 Marc got selected with Sterrehof’s Tamino (from Numero Uno) for the Olympic Games in London and there he won the silver medal with the Dutch team and individually he made it to the 9th place. Marc also took part in the EC in Windsor and the WC in Kentucky. Marc has become victorious in several Grand Prix’s like Paris, Rotterdam, WC London, Munich, Hardelot, Maubeuge, Assen, Den Bosch and Hamburg.

 

In 2009 the family of Marc and Julia was accompanied by their daughter Nina. In 2012 Marc and Julia opened their new stable complex on the same site. In September of 2014 they got married in Austria. In november 2015 they got their second daughter Liz.
